In the end, they did it as they had so many times this year.
They simply found a way.
Friday night, the Colorado Rockies defeated the Washington Nationals, 5-2, at Coors Field and secured their second consecutive playoff berth.
Starter Kyle Freeland battled through six innings, somehow holding the Nationals to two runs despite giving up 11 hits.
The Nationals took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth on a two-run triple by Trea Turner, But an inning later, Ian Desmond's two-run home run put the Rockies up 3-2.
Chris Iannetta followed Desmond with a solo homer and the Rockies lead was 4-2.
Harrison Musgrave, Scott Oberg, Adam Ottavino and Wade Davis brought the win home with three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Those three combined to give up one hit.
The Rockies clinched no worse than an N.L. Wild Card spot and they can still win the N.L. West outright for the first time in franchise history.
