When you get right down to it, baseball can, at times, be a cruel game.

So it was for the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.

The Rockies fell to the San Francisco Giants, 2-1, in 18 innings at Oracle Park.

Brandon Belt scored on Erik Kratz's fielder's choice ground ball in the bottom of the 18th to send the Rockies to their seventh straight loss and 11th in their last 12 games.

Ian Desmond, moved from the outfield to the right side of the infield to give the Rockies five infielders with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 18th, reached down to field Kratz's ground ball on the run, spun and threw home to try to get the force on Belt.

But Rockies catcher Chris Iannetta pulled his right foot off home plate just before the throw arrived. Belt was safe the Giants' celebration was on 1:50 a.m. MDT.

The Rockies were left to again think about tomorrow and another opportunity to snap their losing streak.

Colorado is 3-11 and will send left-hander Kyle Freeland to the mound in Saturday's game. Madison Bumgarner will go for the Giants.

Coverage starts with Rockies All Access at 1 p.m. MDT on KOA NewsRadio 850 AM and 94.1 FM.
