Big Ten Overreacted With Michigan Sign-Stealing Investigation

Doug Gottlieb: "I think the whole thing is a bunch of crap, to be honest with you. It was a lot more intricate than just sign-stealing, cause that happens literally every week on every college football campus. It was advanced scouting that was the issue. Suspending Jim Harbaugh for one game seems reasonable to me, but what I think tips it into the multi-game suspension was that the initial response from Michigan was 'we didn't do this.' There was defiance from them. You know you've nailed it, if you're Tony Petitti, if everyone is unhappy. If Michigan is unhappy, which they are, and fans will be like 'WHAT, that's it?!' Then you've nailed it. I don't think it's as strong as a witch hunt, but I do think that it's because people don't like Harbaugh, Michigan has been really good, they're really arrogant there too, you have a new Commissioner, and we can be easily offended by these things."

Doug Gottlieb believes Jim Harbaugh's punishment handed down by the Big Ten is a fitting end to an overblown mess of a story. Doug details why the entirety of the Michigan sign-stealing allegations and subsequent investigation have been a "bunch of crap" since the beginning, and delivers the truth on why the story became so heavily discussed and debated in sports media. Plus, Doug explains why the Big Ten satisfying no one with their punishment was the best outcome they could have had.
